Meet the Team

Patient Care Coordinator, CDA, COA

I completed the Certified Dental Assistant Program at the University of the Fraser Valley in 2012 and joined Pappel Orthodontics in 2015. I love working with Dr. Pappel and rest of the team! Everyone here is always supportive in teaching me new procedures. I find this team to be exceptional, personally as well as professionally. They bring out the best in people! I’ve really enjoyed meeting our family of patients, especially the children. I enjoy helping to make each person smile!

I was born and raised in Campbell River, and recently moved back to Vancouver Island after spending 14 years on the mainland. I have an amazing man in my life and have been blessed with a wonderful daughter and son, both of whom are teenagers now. In my spare time, I enjoy swimming, rollerblading, gardening, going for walks, fishing, and playing pool.

I  love working with our amazing patients, and watching as their new smiles develop. It’s rewarding to be in a happy, positive practice, and to work in a field where we make a lasting, healthy change in the lives of so many people. Here, I work as a clinical assistant, and provide support to Dr. Pappel during patient procedures. I also coordinate our Invisalign® patients, which means I get to spend time with some of the adults we see. I love when someone who has wanted a beautiful smile for years is finally able to get just that!

I moved to BC about six years ago from Alberta, along with my spouse. I have a wonderful daughter and two beautiful grandchildren, and I share my home with JJ, a Giant Schnauzer, and Charlie, a black Cocker Spaniel. I love hiking with the dogs and travelling to warm places. I believe in giving back to the community, so I volunteer at a free clinic that offers oral healthcare services to people who can’t afford dentistry on their own.

Appointment Coordinator, Financial Coordinator, CDA, COA

Working with each patient and the family, getting to know those who are new to our practice, and helping them find the financial arrangements that work with their particular budget, is rewarding. I love when a parent smiles and thanks me for making it possible for a child to have the orthodontic care they need, when they need it most. I also handle other financial matters, oversee scheduling, work in our lab, and provide clinical assistance.

I’m married with two sons and a daughter. I help my husband with his martial arts school and am very involved with my daughter’s dance program, in addition to my sons’ hockey, Tae Kwon Do and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu activities. We enjoy or summers at Sproat Lake and winter holidays on Maui.

Patient Care Coordinator, CDA, COA

I graduated from the Certified Dental Assistant Program at Vancouver Island University in 2014 and joined Pappel Orthodontics soon after. I work with many of our new patients to take their orthodontic records and get them prepared for treatment. I love people! Seeing the difference in our patients’ smiles before and after treatment is very rewarding. Our office truly is a team. Everyone has been very welcoming to me as a new graduate, and they’re always willing to teach me new things. Each person is caring and supportive.

I have been married for 16 years to my husband, Doug. We have two children, ages 13 and 9, a fur baby named Cooper, and six chickens. In my free time, I enjoy playing ball, going for drives, and spending quality time with my family on our farm.

Treatment Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, CDA, COA

It’s so amazing to see how happy our patients are after treatment is completed and they have an incredible new smile. All their hard work does pay off! I feel particularly rewarded when we are able to assist our patients who have TMJ-TMD and we can relieve them of the pain they’ve been enduring. I keep busy in our practice, from working with new patients and their parents to coordinate the treatment care plan, to reviewing financial options and finding solutions for families. I also handle internal and external marketing projects and social media outreach, and coordinate our website, too.

I’m married and have two daughters and a son, all of whom are grown. Our Weimeraner, George, keeps us company now that the kids are out of the house. I love being outside and enjoy hiking. I also like swimming and practicing yoga, I play in an all-women's hockey league, and am a devout fan of the Canucks.

Interacting with our patients every day, listening to them talk about what they like doing, hearing about their friends and hobbies, is very enjoyable. Each person who comes to us is important to us, and we appreciate all of them for who they are. It’s rewarding to work in an office where the happiness and welfare of our patients are always our highest priority, and the thanks that our patients express lets us know we’re doing a good job! My job duties have me in our onsite lab and providing clinical assistant to Dr. Pappel during patient treatment and procedures.

As for my personal life, I have a family of five and am a part-time blueberry farmer.

Sheila

Orthodontic Lab Technician

I work primarily behind the scenes here at our clinic, fabricating orthodontic appliances for each patient. It’s essential that every appliance fits perfectly, and I am devoted to putting in the necessary time to ensure that the appliance is perfect before it’s delivered to Dr. Pappel and placed in the patient’s mouth.

I have two lovely adult daughters, and when I’m not busy in our lab, I enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends. I love being active and moving, whether I’m walking, hiking, or running. I’m also an avid springtime gardener and very much enjoy a good book.

Treatment Coordinator, CDA, COA

I like the relationships we develop with each patient, and as we become closer throughout treatment, I start feeling excited for the person we are caring for. That new smile we’re creating together is going to make such an amazing difference in their life! My job duties include assisting patients understand the treatment process, taking diagnostic X-rays, reviewing financial options, performing patient consultations, and assisting with social media for our Nanaimo office.

I like being part of our community. I enjoy trail running and belong to a running club, called Runners of Compassion, which helps children and families in our community. My own family is very important to me and I love spending time with my three daughters and my son.

I love seeing the transformation in people after they complete treatment. Their happy faces and beautiful smiles are so incredible! Being part of the team that helps make good things happen, for wonderful people, every day, is so rewarding. I handle scheduling for our office, including new patients from referring dentists. I also try to keep our team focused and on schedule, to make sure each patient is seen in a timely manner and has all the time he or she needs for the visit.
